From the above text (Matthew 25; 1-2), there are ten virgins in which five were wise while the remaining five were foolish. These were not called foolish because of their complexion, race, age, academic qualification, language or gender, but for their actions. It was their deeds that make them to be termed foolish. At times, we, ourselves are bearing bad names that we tagged some people. It was because of their deeds that made them to be called foolish. Not because they cannot pray, but because they are foolish. Jesus knew and made us understand that the cause of their mistake is their foolishness. Academic qualification does not mean that one is wise. Even there are many men of God that are foolish. Age is not a determinant of wisdom: you may be old and not wise.
Though, these people were to meet the bridegroom and they all prepared. But the mistake of the fool was that they focus on unnecessary things. The wise ones concentrated on how to take extra oil. The same thing happens to some people, they are attaching importance to the type of clothes and shoes they will put on during convention. Some women are thinking of the type of hair do. But they don’t even have a day to fast and pray that God should meet them at the convention.
Many things that are not important have been turned to most important things even by the churches and Christians. The problem of these virgins is the problem of some people today: focusing on what is not important. The problem with the foolish virgin was that, they attached importance to mere luxury things. Many of our good women, during the national good women convention, they will use big bag to pack clothes so as to look nice and boast of their clothes. These foolish virgin did not attach importance to the most important things. When the bridegroom tarried and their oil finished, their clothes cannot give them light.
In life, two options will always come to your way, but it is wisdom that will help you to choose rightly. Some people don’t want to lose their friends (as a result of lack of wisdom) and these friend are destroying their lives. Many have lost many good things because of the friends they are moving with as a result of their lack of wisdom.
Somebody from Israel invited me and my wife to Israel, a month to our 2019 convention, but I turned down the invitation because if I choose to go, it will have negative impact on the programme. I will not be able to plan for the convention. There are some things that if we do them, it is not a sin, but it is a wisdom that will allow us to know that doing things will make us to lose some things. Though, these virgins prepared, but they only focussed on what was not important. In this convention, be wise to avoid loss.
