I give honour to God almighty who is worthy. We thank Him for sparing our lives, that He has given us another opportunity to witness this beautiful day. May He continue to protect us in Jesus name Amen.
Last week, I talked about LOVE: Who You Should Love. And I promised this week that I will continue on this theme. Today, I want to share with you something important: “WHY YOU SHOULD LOVE GOD“. There are many reasons WHY YOU SHOULD LOVE GOD, but due to time constraint, I will share with us three reasons today, maybe next time I will talk on more reasons. But these three cogent reasons that I want to share with us, I want us to concentrate, because they are very important: WHY YOU SHOULD LOVE GOD.
Before I move further, some people did not know that God Himself wants us to love Him. In their mind, they thought it is only God that is supposed to love us. Let me tell you, God Himself wants us to love Him. One of the reasons He loves us is that He wants us to love Him. You must love God! It is very important. These are the three (3) reasons you should love:
- HE IS OUR CREATOR
God is our creator. Gen. 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the Earth“. God created the heaven and the Earth including man. If God is our creator, are we not supposed to love Him? Parents want their children to love them because they(parents) contributed to their(children) existence. I don’t see a parent that will be happy if he/she realized that his children did not love him. We want our children to love us. We believe that our children should love us because of our contribution towards their existence. What about our creator? Remember that we are not the creator of our children, we only play a role. But what of God that created us? If God is your creator, you should love Him. Because He is the one that created you, you should love Him. You are not just there, somebody created you, and that person that created you wants something from you, and one of those things is to LOVE HIM. You must love Him because He is your Creator.
- HE LOVES US
God Himself loves us. If God loves us, we must love Him. John 3:16, (underline the word “FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD”). Because God loves you, you must love Him. I have not seen any sane person that will not love those who love him/her. If God loves us, we must love Him. As human beings, if you love somebody, you will want that person to love you in return. Will you be happy if you love somebody but you discover that the person does not love you? You will not be happy.
God loves us, the love of God for us is beyond human reasoning. His love is so great to the extent that He gave up His life because of us. Because God loves us, He offered His only begotten son as a sacrifice. What a love! This love is beyond human imagination. Let me site an example, someone is rearing a cow and a chicken. But his chicken got sick, and somebody told him that if he wanted this chicken to be healed, he would need to kill the cow for it. Will you do that? What God did is more than that. God Himself died for man. He died for human beings; the creator died for creature. What a love! Are you not supposed to love that type of God, who so loves you to that extent? Because He loves us, we should love Him. Do you love Him? Do you even know that He loves you? We should love God more than anything, because He also loves us more than any other thing. I may not be wrong if I say this, that God loves us more than Himself. You may say I am wrong. Okay, somebody that died for another person, what can we say? Does He not love that person more than Himself? We must love that God. Because He loves you to that extent, you SHOULD LOVE GOD. God loves you. As you are reading this, you should know that God loves you. May God help you.
- HE CREATED US DIFFERENTLY
I am talking about human beings. He created us differently. To whom much is given, much is expected. As human beings, God created us differently. Remember, God created many things, even all things. God is the one that created everything, but He created human beings differently. Human being received favour. Human being was lucky. So, we must love Him.
Gen. 1:27, God created human being in His image. It was only human being that God created in His own image. When He created all things, He did not create animal in His own image, nor tree, nor water, and so on, it was only human being that He created in His own image. Are you not supposed to love that God? The Almighty God created you in His own image, it means we resemble Him. It means human being is different in the hand of God. If God favored you to that extent, are you not supposed to love Him? You must love Him. He gave us power to dominate every other thing. We kill animals; remember that it was God that created them too. We can kill animals, eat them and do whatever we like with them. We cut trees, it was God that created these things, even, they were created before us. But we can use them for whatever we like. Are you not supposed to love God? God that gave us power to dominate every other thing.
Brethren, as from today, love God. YOU SHOULD LOVE GOD! If you look at these three things, I believe that you will know that you need to love God. You must love Him, because He created you specially. He created us differently. We are so lucky. It is only human beings that God created like Him. He gave us freedom. So, you must love God. If He loves you to that extent, what are you supposed to do to Him? Are you not supposed to pay Him back?
In conclusion, love Him. God helps you. Next week, if Jesus delay His coming, I will be sharing with you a topic “if you love God“. How would you know that you love God? Thank you, God bless you.
